Reviews
If you are in management this is book is a must read for improving inter-office communication, implementing new ideas, promoting team work, and re-framing the dreaded “change” for your fellow employees into something that is both productive and enjoyable. Organizational change is difficult if you are fighting against ingrained human behavior. This book will give you the tools to make change happen!
“What your employees NEED and can’t tell you” follows Melina Palmer’s must read book “What your customers NEED and can’t tell you”. The same as in her prior book Melina Palmer lays out concepts of business through the lens of Behavioral Economics. This is a field she has dedicated over a decade of time researching, consulting, and teaching in. Her writing style pours her years of knowledge into an easy to understand and digest style of writing. Mixed together with her unique sense of humor, anecdotes, and examples of application; this book is a compelling read that pulls you from one chapter to the next.
I am a National Sales Manager for a Medical Equipment company and taking new ideas and concepts, and implementing them is always difficult. Melina puts what she calls “Micro Shift Moments” all through the book. These help you to start implementing small changes that can yield big results right away.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it has given me a fresh perspective on why some of my team projects have failed in the past and why some succeeded. With the tools I have learned in this book, I am looking forward to working to implementing needed changes within my company.
I’ve often thought of great Leadership as an “I know it when I see it” trait — hard to quantify but impossible to miss.
Fortunately, people like Melina Palmer are not only quantifying it but also sharing the results in actionable, practical ways.
Melina explains that what you communicate (often unknowingly) to the subconscious mind will determine whether people will embrace or resist your change initiatives.
The books is full of examples of how a slight change in words can make a dramatic difference in how a message is received.
One of my favorite takeaways: Read any communication with the worst possible intent before sending it. If this was sent to someone who has a confirmation bias against you (your work nemesis), how might they read it?
I highly recommend for leaders who seek to increase trust and influence with their teams and anyone who wants to be more consciously aware of how to communicate effectively with others.
Melina is a genius! I love her podcast and now both books. So helpful if you have employees and her other book was excellent for improving our client iux.
Melina does it again! Great business read
I read “What Your Customer Wants and Can’t Tell You” and was excited to hear there was another book coming out about employee and employee engagement. I pre-ordered it and got it on day 1. The writing and concepts remind me a lot of The Nudge by Richard H. Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein mixed with Freakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. (A good mix of both!)
Bravo! What a helpful and interesting resource for any leader seeking to design for employee thriving, not just surviving. Amidst the great “silent quitting” that seems so pervasive in work culture, this is an invaluable aid to help teams shift their focus on what employees most value in order to retain, develop and grow top talent.
Totally love the content of this book. It is written for today’s managers who need to cut through the hyperbole and get to the good stuff. Cannot recommend this book enough.
Understand how people make decisions, so you can bring people on board with your ideas and inspire them into action.
